Saud Shakeel Career

Azam Khan, the manager of the Quetta Gladiators at the time and not related to Moin Khan’s son, became aware of Saud in 2007. Azam’s contact with his uncle allowed him to introduce Saud Shakeel, then in sixth grade at The Crescent Academy, to many cricket academies. Following these academies’ lacklustre reaction, Azam included Saud in practice sessions where he faced players like Tabish Khan, Anwar Ali, and Rumman Raees. As a result, Saud became a member of the Pakistan Cricket Club and received coaching from players like Sarfaraz Ahmed and Asad Shafiq.

Domestic Career

  • He made his first-class debut on October 26, 2015, as he competed in the 2015–16 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.
  • He was chosen to play for the Quetta Gladiators in the 2018 Pakistan Super League players’ draft in November 2017.
  • He was the leading run scorer for Pakistan Television in seven Quaid-e-Azam Trophy games in 2017–18, scoring 488 runs.
  • He was included in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s 2018 Pakistan Cup team in April of the same year. With 414 runs in five Quaid-e-Azam Trophy games in 2018–19, he was Pakistan Television’s top run scorer.
  • He was chosen to represent Pakistan in the December 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup. He was added to the Federal Areas squad in March 2019 for the Pakistan Cup.
  • In the September 2019 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, he was a member of Sindh’s team. He was announced as Pakistan’s captain for the 2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Bangladesh in November 2019.
  • He was included on the 2020 PCB Awards shortlist for Domestic Cricketer of the Year in December 2020.

International Career

  • He was included in Pakistan’s Test team for their series against South Africa in January 2021.
  • He was included in Pakistan’s limited overs and Test teams for their March 2021 trips to Zimbabwe and South Africa. But because of an injury, he was unable to play in the ODI matches against South Africa.
  • Included in Pakistan’s Test and ODI teams in June 2021 for their respective tours of England and the West Indies.
  • Shakeel made his debut for Pakistan in a One-Day International match against England on July 8, 2021.
  • In October 2021, he was chosen to lead the Pakistan Shaheens to Sri Lanka.
  • Selected in Pakistan’s Test team for their series against Bangladesh in November 2021.
  • He was also included in Pakistan’s Test team for their series against Australia in February 2022.
