Sam Ayub Pakistan Super League (PSL) Performances
In 2016, the PCB started the first edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as a 6 team franchise T20 tournament with Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators. The league was soon the most popular cricket contest in Pakistan, played in a double round-robin with subsequent page playoffs. As of 2025 it had already completed ten successful seasons and the expansion beyond the original six team, ten year model would commence in 2026.
Glory was also shared over the years, with Islamabad United (2016, 2018, 2024), Peshawar Zalmi (2017), Quetta Gladiators (2019), Karachi Kings (2020), Multan Sultans (2021), and Lahore Qalandars (2022, 2023, 2025). The 2025 one, renamed as the HBL PSL X, was won by Lahore Qalandars following a record-breaking final pursuit against Quetta Gladiators. It was a season of shifts in May schedules caused by local tensions, refurbished stadiums, a Lahore-based playoff round, Urdu-English dual commentary, advanced broadcast deals, and Hawk-Eye powered refereeing. Competitive balance was also a feature with Quetta, Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore making the playoffs and Peshawar and Multan just missing out, again demonstrating the unpredictable and exciting nature of the league.
