Hardik Pandya was the winner of the toss and decided to bowl first at the Wankhede knowing that his onslaught was likely to limit CSK on what appeared to be a decent grass-covered surface. • Asking the Mumbai Indians to catch CSK at 208 runs always had the potential to be a challenge, especially when the pitch was so different in the second half of the match. The ball was caught and tossed and the spinners of CSK took advantage of it with devastating effect with the first ball of the chase.

This victory for Chennai Super Kings was a big one. It was a showpiece performance that highlighted the threat that this CSK team can pose when performing at their best. Samson remains the torchbearer of their batting and his capacity to put in an innings while also hitting at almost 190 strikes was remarkable on a pitch that looked to have others in distress.

The Hosein selection as Impact Player was a stroke of genius on CSK’s part, by captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and his support team.
